Late Disasi Goal Sees Chelsea, Brentford Share Spoils

March 02, (THEWILL) – Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford in an entertaining English Premier League clash on Saturday. The Blues took the lead through Nicolas Jackson’s first half header, his first league goal since December, before Brentford equalised soon after the break through Mads Roerslev. Brentford then went ahead thanks to an acrobatic volley from Yoane Wissa, but Chelsea found another equaliser late on via a set piece routine finished by Axel Disasi.

The draw means Chelsea drop more points with their fluctuating form remaining a concern. For Brentford, the point ends a three-game losing streak in the league, but they sit precariously just six points above the relegation zone in need of more wins.

It was an open contest that saw both teams create numerous chances, with Chelsea guilty of lacking cutting edge at times in front of goal. Reguilon and Palmer were both denied by the woodwork for the visitors in the second half.

Ultimately neither side could find a winner in an entertaining London derby. Chelsea extend their unbeaten run in the capital to five games, but Brentford put the brakes on a poor run of form as they battle to avoid relegation.

The result does little to aid either side’s ambitions both at mid-table for the Blues and at the lower end for the Bees. Chelsea face a fight to get a consistent run of wins and climb up the standings while Brentford know further wins are needed to preserve their top flight status.
