November 02, (THEWILL) – Tottenham came from behind to defeat Marseille 2-1 on Tuesday, to advance to the knockout stages of the Champions League, thanks to goals from Clement Lenglet and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Spurs believed that a draw in France would be sufficient to see them advance to the round of 16, but Chancel Mbemba’s potent goal left them with a deficit to deal with at the end of the first 45 minutes.
However, Lenglet scored off an Ivan Perisic corner just after the break, and Hojbjerg found the back of the net in stoppage time to complete the comeback and guarantee Antonio Conte and his side maximum points.
With the win, Spurs finish as Group D’s top team and advance to the competition’s knockout rounds for the first time since the 2019/2020 campaign.
