Lagos Issues Travel Advisory Ahead Of Women Run

November 11, (THEWILL) – The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) has issued a travel advisory to motorists and road users ahead of the upcoming Y2021 Mini-Marathon for Women, dubbed “Lagos Women Run,” which will begin at 6.30 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Sola Aiyepeku, Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, the mini-marathon, which will be both virtual and physical, will attract over 10,000 women from all over the world who have expressed an interest in taking part in Africa’s largest female fitness gathering.

Aiyepeku explained that anyone, including individuals, teams, and organisations, can take part in the race virtually from anywhere in the globe, using the LWR running app, which can be recorded and monitored.

While noting that the actual race will follow all COVID-19 health and safety protocols, Aiyepeku said that some routes will be temporarily closed to traffic during the period, including Marina Bridge inbound to Apongbon, Onikan inbound to J.K Randle Avenue (TBS), and Muson Centre/Flag House inbound to TBS.

In addition to these are Water Board/NITEL/Marina Bridge/IPP, Inner Marina Road inwards NITEL/State House, Ebute-Ero inwards Eko-Bridge, ljora Olopa/LAWMA HQ inward Ijora Oloye/Marine Bridge, Eko-Bridge descending to Alaka, Alaka inwards Stadium/Surulere on the Service Lane and Broad Street by Elegbata/Ofin/Apongbon.

Motorists coming from Victoria lsland and lkoyi were advised to make use of the Carter Bridge (ldumota Bridge) to lddo-Oyingbo-Herbert Macaulay or use Third Mainland Bridge through Alfred Rewane-Osborne Road, while it was recommended to those from Ebute-Ero to go through Eko-Bridge to link Adeniji-Adele Interchange to Carter Bridge (Idumota Bridge) and connect Iddo-Oyingbo-Herbert Macaulay Way down to Adekunle to Third Mainland Bridge or Herbert Macaulay way to Jibowu before accessing their preferred destination.

“Motorists from Apapa Road wanting to connect Stadium from Alaka should make use of lponri Estate to connect Bode Thomas Road, while Lagos lsland bound vehicles from Surulere are free from any restrictions”, Aiyepeku added.

The Executive Chairman urged motorists to plan their journeys for the duration of the race according to the issued travel advisory, pleading with drivers to accept the brief disruption that may be experienced during the mini-marathon.
