BEVERLY HILLS, July 19, (THEWILL) – The Lagos state government has announced a slight extension of the restriction of movement on Saturday, July 22, when elections will hold across the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas.

The restriction, which was formerly slated to last for 6 hours, between 8am and 2pm, would now be for 8 hours, between7am and 3pm.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, the extension was to allow for a smooth conduct of the elections and unhindered participation.

Ayorinde said the restriction of movement would allow the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and the security agencies to distribute electoral materials in good time and ensure a seamless electoral process.

He reiterated the government’s call for a peaceful and orderly conduct by the electorate during the elections that will usher in new chairmen and councillors in the 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs across the state.

Ayorinde insisted that the state government and security agencies will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a free and fair election, as well as the safety of electoral officials and voters as he urged residents to be peaceful and orderly in casting their votes for chairmen and councillors.

“The police and other security agencies have been maintaining law and order since the commencement of campaign by political parties,” Ayorinde said.

“They are poised to ensure that the votingon Saturdayis conducted smoothly without public disturbance.”
