May 04, (THEWILL) – Barcelona fans’ hopes of a Messi homecoming have been reignited in the midst of recent events, but it appears that the Argentine will have to lower his wage demands if he wants to secure a move back to the Camp Nou.
La Liga president, Javier Tebas, stated that Barcelona’s financial struggles mean Messi will have to accept a lower salary than he currently earns at Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking recently on the subject, Tebas said: “If Barcelona sign Lionel Messi, his salary will be less than what it is at Paris Saint-Germain. His return is now conditional on selling players. I think that Barça will get a good amount from selling players this summer.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal could potentially play a role in Barcelona’s financial rebuild. The Gunners are reportedly targeting a right winger this summer, and two Barcelona players – Ferran Torres and Raphinha – are said to be on their shortlist.
The question will be if Barcelona will be willing to part ways with either of the players, as any potential transfer could help ease the club’s financial burdens and open the possibility of bringing the iconic Argentine superstar back to the Catalan club this summer.
