July 07, (THEWILL) – Nick Kyrgios advanced to the semi-finals at Wimbledon after defeating Cristian Garin in straight sets on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old unseeded player fought back after dropping his serve in the first game to defeat the Chilean 6-4 6-3 7-6, and go to the All England Club’s semi-finals beating his previous best result in a Grand Slam singles event, as his incredibly eventful campaign at SW19 continues.
Despite the fact that Kyrgios’ performances at Wimbledon this year have frequently been fraught with controversy, the Australian kept his temper under control during their play on No. 1 Court, spoke mostly to himself and the umpires just infrequently.
He also took his success of reaching his first Grand Slam semi-final very seriously, as evidenced by his post-match calmness.
However, it was not all easy sailing for the 27-year-old as Garin, one of the championship’s surprises this year, raced out of the gates quickly to take the early break in the first match.
But Kyrgios, who is renowned for his serve, constantly pushed the Chilean in their return games and, after three tries, won the break in game six. On Centre Court, the Australian will now watch the outcome of the semifinal between Rafael Nadal and Taylor Fritz with the record-setting Spaniard dealing with an abdominal issue.
