SAN FRANCISCO, August 23, (THEWILL) – Kano State governor, Mallam Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, on Friday, took his high profile consultation to President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja as he formally lodged a complaint against the Minister of Aviation , Princess Stella Oduah, and the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Festus Odimegwu.
Maintaining that he was not happy with the way the Aviation ministry was frustrating the revitalisation of the air transport system in Kano State, Kwankwaso, who also expressed reservations on the appointment of Odimegwu as NPC chairman, told journalists at the State House after meeting with the president that he was invited for a chat by President Jonathan
Though he did not disclose details of his meeting with the president, he said the discussion centred on issues affecting the nation, alleging that the ministry of aviation refused to grant approval to airlines that indicated interest to ply the Kano route.
“Airlines that applied to go to Kano were refused approval by the aviation ministry and I also raised the issue of the Chairman of the National Population Commission headed by one Festus Odimegwu,” Kwankwaso , who is one of the five northern governors holding high profile meetings with some political stakeholders in the country, said.
He explained that his state was against Odimegwu’s leadership of the NPC because of his nullification of the 2006 census figures, saying Kano State sees Odimegwu’s appointment as a mistake.
“We are not happy about that appointment, and think that it was a mistake. Festus shouldn’t be there in the first place,” he said.
He said Odimegwu does not deserve to steer the ship of the organisation “because he cannot be the Chairman of NPC and at the same time attacking what his predecessor had done.”
According to Kwankwaso , “Even if it was wrong, he now has good opportunity to correct it but instead of doing that, he has been running around to discredit the 2006 census.
“And in our own opinion, as long as he is there, he has already killed the 2016 census before it even started. And I believe that is not correct and that is not fair.”
