Kvitova Seals German Open Title With Impressive Straight Sets Win Over Vekic

Petra Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon champion, asserted her grass court dominance by clinching the German Open title with a remarkable performance against Croatia’s Donna Vekic.

The 33-year-old Czech player, who previously defeated Vekic en route to her triumph at this year’s Miami Open, showcased her exceptional skills to secure a 6-2 7-6(6) victory. Kvitova’s commanding display on the grass court reaffirmed her status as one of the finest players on this surface, serving as a powerful message to her rivals just ahead of the upcoming Wimbledon tournament.

From the onset, Kvitova displayed her comfort and finesse on the grass court, demonstrating why she holds the record for the most grass court titles among active WTA players with her sixth title on this surface. The left-hander’s superior strength and shot-making abilities allowed her to dominate the first set, while Vekic struggled to find her rhythm, particularly with her forehand.

Although Kvitova faced a setback in the early stages of the second set, falling behind with a break, she showcased her resilience by mounting a comeback from 5-3 down. Eventually, Kvitova seized control of the match, moving ahead 6-5 with a clutch ace. In the ensuing tiebreak, Vekic battled valiantly, but it was Kvitova’s thundering forehand on the first match point that sealed the victory in her favour.
