January 03, (THEWILL) – Andy Murray’s return to the court at the Adelaide International 1 ended in disappointment, as he was defeated in the first round by Sebastian Korda of the USA.
The match lasted for one hour and 56 minutes, with Korda emerging as the winner with a score of 6-7[3] 3-6. Korda will now move on to face Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the second round.
Murray struggled to keep up with Korda throughout the match, only managing to win 51% of his first serves in the opening set. Despite saving two break points in the 11th game of the first set, Murray ultimately lost the tie-breaker. Korda broke Murray’s serve once more in the sixth game of the second set, sealing the straight-sets win with a love hold.
This was not the only loss for British players at the Adelaide International, as Kyle Edmund was defeated 3-6 2-6 by Italian sixth seed Jannik Sinner in the first round. Jack Draper is the only remaining British player in the singles tournament, set to face Karen Khachanov in the second round on Wednesday.
On a brighter note, Emma Raducanu of Great Britain was able to secure a win in the first round of the ASB Classic in Auckland, coming back from a set and a break down to defeat 17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova 4-6 6-4 6-2.
