January 18, (THEWILL) – Sead Kolasinac’s contract with English Premier League side Arsenal, has been mutually terminated and the defender has left the club as the Bosnian has completed a free transfer to Marseille.
Kolasinac becomes the third first-team player to leave Arsenal this month, according to a statement released on Tuesday evening. Ainsley Maitland-Niles left to Roma, Folarin Balogun left on loan and Pablo Mari is poised to join Udinese
Kolasinac joined Arsenal on a free transfer from Bundesliga side Schalke, scoring on his debut to help the Gunners win the Community Shield in 2017 before winning the Player of the Month title in August.
Under Mikel Arteta, however, he fell out of favour and was a late substitute in the 2020 FA Cup final triumph over Chelsea. Later that year, he was loaned back to Schalke, and when he returned in the summer, he was used little once more.
The 28-year-old has only played five times this season, with his most recent outing coming as a late substitute in the FA Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest.
An Arsenal statement read: “Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Sead for his contribution to the club since he joined us in 2017 and wish him all the best for his future.”
Marseille has confirmed his signing on a contract that runs through June 2023.
