July 28, (THEWILL) – After Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker participated in team training on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp revealed both good and bad news regarding the Brazilian’s availability ahead of the 2022/2023 season.
THEWILL recalls that Alisson missed the most of preseason due to an abdominal injury sustained during the Asia tour, which also required him to tone down his participation in training. He was initially expected to make the Community Shield squad against Manchester City on Saturday, but that is no longer the case.
Alisson’s training increased on the last day in Austria, but he will not be in line to play versus City especially as that game, to be played at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, is in two days. The good news, though, is that he will “definitely be available” for the Premier League opening against Fulham the following week.
Klopp said: “Ali trained today more than the day before, he will definitely be available for Fulham, but not for the weekend.”
As a result, Adrian will start in goal for the Reds versus City, and Harvey Davies, who made the most of his opportunities throughout the preseason, is expected to serve as his backup. Caoimhin Kelleher is not available and was unable to go to Austria owing to his own injury.
