December 10, (THEWILL) – The traditional ruler of the Ebeteghete community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Edwin Azuike, has been murdered.
The monarch was killed after he was abducted from his palace on Thursday.
The monarch was shot in the head and dumped in a car found at the market square in the community on Friday morning.
His death was confirmed in a statement by the State Police Command.
“Yes, the man was killed and his body found in a car. The investigation has commenced getting the full details,” spokesperson of the Command, Micheal Abattam, said.
The chairman of Traditional Rulers Council/ Community Policing in the state, Eze Emma Okeke, also spoke on the incident.
He said the monarchs in the state are saddened by the murder of their colleague.
He said, “We have got the sad news about the killing of Eze Edwin Azike. This is abominable in Igbo culture. I don’t know why traditional rulers are being hunted like this. We are not politicians, we are only custodians of the culture of our people. We were informed on Thursday when he was kidnapped, only for him to be found dead, this morning.”
