November 19, (THEWILL) – Kevin De Bruyne has tested positive for Covid-19, meaning Manchester City would be without the midfielder for the next ten days or more, according to Pep Guardiola.
De Bruyne played in both of Belgium’s World Cup qualifiers, impressing against Estonia and Wales as the Red Devils qualified for next year’s global tournament in Qatar.
However, the 30-year-old will miss the weekend’s match against Everton as well as the Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. His availability for next weekend’s match against West Ham is also in doubt.
At a press conference ahead of his side’s clash with Everton on Sunday, Guardiola said: “We have Jack getting better after he went to the national team. Phil Foden came back with a knock and a problem in his leg, but he is getting better. And unfortunately Kevin got a positive COVID test in Belgium and needs ten days.
“We found out two days ago, he is here. Forget about fitness and momentum, he [De Bruyne] is positive, now he has to recover.
“We have to be careful, people are dying from COVID, he is vaccinated so hopefully he will be okay. There is no concern about rhythm it’s about the human being.”
Man City are now in second place in the Premier League, three points behind Chelsea, and are the odds-on favourites to defeat Everton. In their Champions League group, they sit a point ahead of PSG, despite losing to Mauricio Pochettino’s side earlier in the season.
So far this season, De Bruyne has made eight league games, scoring twice without registering an assist. City has scored a lot of goals this season, with Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden currently leading the league with three goals each.
