July 02, (THEWILL) – The Kenyan government has dismissed claims it was involved in the arrest and extradition of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Nigeria, sustaining THEWILL’s report that the operation took place in Ethiopia.

Two high-powered Kenyan government executives, an Immigration chief back home and the country’s envoy to Nigeria, have denied the involvement of their East-African country in the IPOB leader’s arrest and extradition.

Up till now the Nigerian government itself has kept sealed lips on the location of Kanu’s arrest.

However, a May 2021 edition of THEWILL’s weekly newspaper had cited intelligence sources exposing a pre-emptive strike against Nnamdi Kanu through communication between Nigeria and Ethiopia.

In the correspondence exclusively made privy to THEWILL, the IPOB leader’s home country demanded Ethiopia authorities’ cooperation with Interpol for his arrest and repatriation to face treason and illegal weapons’ charges.

Kanu was said at that time to be paying a visit to Ethiopia.

THEWILL reports that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, had earlier on Tuesday announced the re-arrest of Nnamdi Kanu by joint security agencies at an undisclosed location and subsequent extradition to Nigeria.

Nnamdi Kanu’s family and IPOB on Wednesday accused the Kenyan government of having committed the most serious violation of international law by handing him over to Nigeria.

However, at a Press Briefing by the Kenyan High Commission in Nigeria in Abuja on Friday, the High Commissioner, Ambassador (Dr.) Wilfred Machage, denied the involvement of his country in the whole saga.

In a similar vein earlier on Thursday, Alexander Muteshi, Kenya Director-General of Immigration Services, had also dismissed the claim that Kanu was arrested in Kenya.

Muteshi, who spoke to Nation, a Kenya news outlet, said Kenya authorities could not ascertain whether the arrest of Kanu took place .

“I can’t know that. I am not in the picture of his presence in the country. I am only able to tell if somebody entered the country legally,” he said.

Also, the British High Commission in Nigeria had denied that the IPOB leader was arrested or extradited from the UK, where he is a citizen.

Recall that in an exclusive report on Tuesday, THEWILL had reported thatKanu was intercepted in Ethiopia by a joint security operatives of the government and INTERPOL and extradited to Nigeria.
