Kate Henshaw, Desmond Elliot Join AFRIFF 2023 Jury

October 31, (THEWILL) – The Africa International Film Festival, AFRIFF, has revealed its jury members for the upcoming 12th edition, which is set to be held from November 5 to 11, in Lagos.

AFRIFF shared that it received an impressive 2,000 films from over 100 countries across five continents during its submission period.

The esteemed jury includes Stephen ‘Dr’ Love, producer of Netflix’s highly-watched movie ‘They Cloned Tyrone’ and Emmy-nominated Nigerian-British writer-producer, Abby Ajayi.

Joining them are Nigerian film producer, Greg Otudayo, Zimbabwean award-winning author and recipient of the 2023 African Peace Prize, Tsitsi Dangarembga and Lebanese-French actress and director, Wafa’a Céline Halawi.

Completing the distinguished jury lineup are entertainment and technology expert Geneva Wasserman, who serves as the SVP of Scripted Development at Dentsu; Cuban-American film producer Ranada Shepard from the Japanese media powerhouse; and acclaimed Hollywood producer Nicholas Weinstock, who heads Inventions Studios.

Further enriching the panel are film acquisition expert Busola Tejumola, who holds the position of Head of Content at MultiChoice; Nollywood veteran actress Kate Henshaw; and the multi-talented Desmond Elliott, known for his roles as an actor, filmmaker, and lawmaker.

The jury’s pivotal role is to select the finalists for the AFRIFF Globe Awards. This esteemed international panel will bestow 14 Globe Awards, recognizing excellence and mastery in visual storytelling.

The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) is an annual cinematic celebration held in Nigeria since its establishment in 2010, debuting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Founded by Chioma Ude, a dedicated film enthusiast and entrepreneur, the week-long event features award ceremonies and film training classes. Keith Shiri, the founder/director of Africa at the Pictures, serves as the festival’s artistic director.

AFRIFF recognises outstanding contributions in various categories such as Feature, Documentary, Short, Animation, and student short, with awards for Directing, Acting, and Screenplay. Special recognitions include Audience Choice and the distinguished Outstanding Film Jury Award.
