January 04, (THEWILL) – The member representing Fagge Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mohammed Bello Shehu, has unveiled plans to create tailoring clusters to boost tailoring business in the area.

Shehu disclosed this while addressing a news conference at the NUJ Press Centre, Kano, on Thursday.

He said the constituency is renowned for tailoring business and that forming clusters would empower the Tailors as well as enhance their trade in the area.

He said the clusters would involve the existing Tailors in the ten wards of the constituency.

He said the clusters would be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission(CAC) to enable them to source for Tailoring contracts from Federal institutions and other organisations.

Such contracts, the legislator said, would include sewing uniforms for institutions with uniformed personnel to enable the Tailors to earn more money for their labour.

Taking into cognisance the fact that Tailoring work solely relies on electricity, the Lawmaker said he had taken steps to ensure improved power supply to the area.

Part of the measures, he said, was a fruitful meeting he held with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and the State Rural Electricity Board, the result of which he said was an improved power supply to the constituency.

He said he had also met with the traditional ruler of the area and it was resolved that Ward Heads would be involved and that a committee would be set up at each ward, which would ensure the monthly payment of electricity bill by each Tailoring shop.

On his part, Shehu said he would be topping the Tailors’ monthly payment with a certain amount every four months in order to settle KEDCO bills, in fulfilment of the agreement reached with the electricity company.
