Kano Assembly Elects New Speaker
The Kano State House of Assembly has elected Honourable Ishaku Danja (APC) as new Speaker of the House following the resignation of Honourable Gambo Sallau as Speaker.
Danja, who until his election on Tuesday was the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, yesterday defected alongside 25 other assemblymen to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), thus enabling the APC emerge majority in the 31 member Kano State House of Assembly.
The Assembly also elected Honourable Hamisu Chidari and Honourable Kabir Alhassan as Deputy Speaker and Majority Leader respectively.
Chidari was Majority Leader of the House.

BEVERLY HILLS, February 04, (THEWILL) – The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Gambo Sallau, (PDP) has resigned from office following the defection of 26 members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Assembly is made up of 31 members.
In a broadcast on Freedom Radio, Kano, Tuesday, Sallau said: “I, Gambo Sallau, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, hereby announce my resignation as the speaker.
“Now that the PDP has become an opposition party, I will not continue to be the Speaker of the House,” he said.
