August 29, (THEWILL) – Kano State Government has reduced registration fees by 50 percent for all indigenes studying in the state-owned tertiary institutions.

The State Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, disclosed this to newsmen in Kano.

Kofarmata said the gesture by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would cushion the effects of the current economic hardships being faced by the students and their parents occasioned by the removal of subsidy on fuel.

He said that all indigenes of the state pursuing regular courses in the state-owned institutions are to enjoy the total relief of 50 percent reduction in the registration fees for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The commissioner listed the institutions to include Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano; Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kumbotso and Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies.

Others are: Kano State Polytechnic; Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta; Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Advanced and Remedial Studies, Tudun Wada and Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies.

He said that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had implored beneficiaries of the government’s gesture to reciprocate by exhibiting more dedication and commitment to their studies.

THEWILL recalls that the State Government had last week approved the release of N700 million for payment of registration fees for 7,000 indigenes of the state studying at the Bayero University, Kano(BUK).

This came in the wake of the increase of students’ registration fees by the university which drew widespread complaints from parents, with many of them expressing inability to settle the fees for their children and wards.
