August 27, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich striker, Harry Kane, has been awarded the Golden Shoe for being the top goalscorer in European football leagues.
The England captain received the honour at a ceremony in Munich on Tuesday, for his 36 goals in the previous Bundesliga season. This marks Kane’s first Golden Shoe win, despite leading the Premier League scoring charts three times previously.
The 30-year-old expressed his pride and gratitude upon receiving the award, stating it was a “fantastic feeling” and acknowledging the support of his teammates and fans.
Kane’s impressive tally of 36 goals in 32 appearances for Bayern puts him just five short of the single-season Bundesliga record held by former Bayern striker, Robert Lewandowski. However, despite his individual success, Kane is yet to win a team trophy in his career, with Bayern finishing the 2023/2024 season without silverware for the first time since 2012.
Looking ahead, Kane emphasised his desire for team success, saying: “I want to continue as I started last season, but it is important to win titles. We want to achieve success as a team.” Bayern CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, praised Kane’s character since his move to Munich in 2024.
The Golden Shoe, established in the 1967/1968 season, now uses a ranking system favouring players in higher-ranked leagues. Lionel Messi holds the record for most wins with six, while other notable recipients include Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland.
