BEVERLY HILLS, March 30, (THEWILL) – Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, who plays for Serie A champions Juventus, has been suspended for “blasphemy” because of utterances during a Juventus fixture against Parma on Saturday, December 19 last year.
The suspension implies that the Turin Derby will take place without the goalkeeper in the Matchday squad.
The veteran goalkeeper appealed the initial charge imposed on him by the Federal Prosecutor; but the Federal Court of Appeal upheld Buffon’s ban as penalty for what they referred to as uttering a “blasphemous expression.”
In addition to the match-ban, the decorated keeper also bagged a fine of €5,000 for his blasphemy during the match against the Gialloblu.
The statement containing the decision of the court read: “The Federal Court of Appeal upheld the appeal of the Federal Prosecutor, inflicting one match of disqualification on Gianluigi Buffon.
“The Juventus goalkeeper, sanctioned by the National Federal Court with a fine of €5,000, had been referred for having uttered a sentence containing a blasphemous expression during the match against Parma last December 19.”
Though it was not revealed what this “expression” was, the star keeper will not play any role in one of Serie A’s exciting derbies this season when Juve travel to Torino for their next tie, the match between two of Turin’s must prominent club-sides.
