January 20, (THEWILL) – Juventus secured their spot in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory over Monza on Thursday night, thanks to a sublime strike from Federico Chiesa.
Moise Kean gave Juve the lead early on, but Mattia Valoti equalised for Monza. Kean had a goal disallowed for offside, but Chiesa’s strike 12 minutes before the end sealed the win for the home side.
Chiesa’s goal was his first in a competitive game since January last year and could prove crucial if Juve are to claim silverware this season. Monza will be disappointed with their performance, having dominated possession but only managing three attempts on target.
Juve’s Serie A hopes may be all but over after last week’s heavy defeat to Napoli, but their chances of cup success are still alive. Both teams return to league action on Sunday, with Juventus facing Atalanta and Monza preparing to meet Sassuolo.
