October 6, (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, Adrien Rabiot scored twice, to help Juventus defeat Maccabi Haifa 3-1 in the Champions League, increasing their chances of moving on from Group H.
After two straight European defeats to Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain, the Bianconeri entered the game needing a win. Rabiot’s decisive first-half goal gave them a comforting lead.
A hat-trick of assists by Angel Di Maria made him the outstanding feature of the Old Lady, notably the exquisite ball that allowed Dusan Vlahovic to increase Juventus’ lead soon after the half.
Dean David’s quick break to cut the deficit put Juventus under pressure, but Rabiot’s late header secured the victory and relieved Massimiliano Allegri of the burden that some of their performances had started to burn under him.
Still, when they visit Serie A Champions AC Milan on Saturday, their domestic title credentials will be tested. On the same day, Maccabi Haifa travels to Maccabi Bnei Raina.
