June 29, (THEWILL) – London’s Metropolitan Police revealed on Thursday, that three individuals associated with the “Just Stop Oil” movement, have been charged with aggravated trespass.

This charge follows their disruptive actions on the first day of the second Ashes test match between England and Australia, at Lord’s.

THEWILL recalls that the incident involved the protesters breaching the field and dispersing orange powder onto the outfield. England wicketkeeper, Jonny Bairstow, intervened by intercepting one of the demonstrators and guiding them out of the playing area.

Glo

Play was momentarily suspended for approximately five minutes to remove the powder, while the offenders were promptly apprehended by the authorities. Metropolitan Police Service Superintendent, Gerry Parker, stated, “We will not tolerate criminal or anti-social behaviour, and there are serious consequences for people who engage in criminal acts.”

The charged protesters are scheduled to make their appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on July 31. This occurrence follows previous disruptions caused by the Just Stop Oil campaigners, who had obstructed the England team bus before a test match against Ireland earlier this month. Additionally, they had recently targeted the World Snooker Championship and the Premiership Rugby final, further intensifying their agenda.

Their activities have resulted in alert warnings to other sports events to beef up their security organising with disruptions in mind. On Thursday, THEWILL reported that organisers of Wimbledon were preparing for the Grand Slam with this warning in mind to keep the protesters out of the grounds.
