October 01, (THEWILL) – There was wide jubilation in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital on Friday, following directives by the state government that telecom services be restored.
The state governor, Bello Mohammed, who issued the order, said the restoration of telecommunications services is just within Gusau, effective Friday, 1st October, 2021.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Communication and Public Enlightenment, Zalaini Bappa, said the restoring telecoms services at the state capital became imperative following the tremendous success recorded in the fight against banditry in the state and to ease the hardship faced by the private and public sectors in the state.
“Government finds it necessary to ease the tight measure after the recorded success desired of it which has no doubt destabilsed the syndicate of criminals terrorising the state leading to the successes recorded against them by the security operatives,” he stated.
The statement further said that Governor Matawalle has promised that his administration will continue to closely monitor the unfolding developments and will announce further decisions of the government on measures being taken at the appropriate time.
Commenting on the development, some residents in the town expressed joy over the announcement.
One resident, Hajia Zainab, said life has been difficult since the suspension of telecom services.
Zainab, a widow and mother of four children, lamented that she has been disconnected from her source of livelihood as a Point of Sale (POS) operator.
Zainab could not hold back tears as she expressed joy at the announcement.
