February 03, (THEWILL) – Luka Jovic was the hero for AC Milan on Saturday, firing a dramatic late winner to claim a 3-2 comeback victory away at Frosinone and keep his side well in the hunt for the Serie A title. The Serbia striker lashed home a clinical finish in the 81st minute to cap a superb fightback from Stefano Pioli’s men, who came from 2-1 down to claim what could prove a pivotal win in the race for the Scudetto.
Milan had taken an early lead through Olivier Giroud, only for Frosinone to turn the game on its head with goals either side of half-time from Matias Soule and Luca Mazzitelli. However, Gabbia brought Milan level with his first ever Serie A goal, teeing up Jovic to snatch victory right at the death.
The result leaves Milan sitting just five points behind league leaders Inter Milan, who face a monumental clash with Juventus this Sunday. With the gap at the summit so tight, Jovic’s late intervention could prove decisive come the end of the season. Inter do have two games in hand over their city rivals, crucially keeping their Scudetto lead alive.
It was a painful defeat for Frosinone to take, after going ahead midway through the second half. Despite putting up a valiant fight, the promoted side remain just 5 points clear of the relegation places.
As for Milan, the performance once again highlighted their resilience and scoring power, with Jovic bagging his 7th goal in 10 games across all competitions. After his January move from Real Madrid, the 24-year-old is rapidly becoming a fan favourite at the San Siro.
