June 20, (THEWILL) – Serbia snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw against Slovenia in their Group C match at Euro 2024, thanks to a last-gasp header from Luka Jovic. The result at Munich’s Allianz Arena keeps Serbia’s tournament hopes alive, whilst Slovenia were left to rue missed opportunities.
The match remained goalless for 68 minutes, setting a new record for the longest scoreless period in Euro 2024. Slovenia’s Zan Karnicnik broke the deadlock with a well-worked goal, finishing off a move he initiated with a powerful run from his own half.
Serbia pressed for an equaliser, with Aleksandar Mitrović hitting the crossbar. As stoppage time expired, Jovic rose highest to meet Ivan Ilić’s corner, heading home to spark jubilant scenes among the Serbian supporters.
The draw leaves both teams with work to do in their final group matches. Serbia, with one point, face Denmark on Tuesday, whilst Slovenia, now on two points, take on group leaders England.
