October 29, (THEWILL) – Liverpool eased to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, maintaining their 100% home record in the English Premier League this campaign. A brace before the break from Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez put the Reds firmly in control before Mohamed Salah wrapped up the points in the second half.
Jota celebrated the opening goal by holding aloft teammate Luis Diaz’s number 7 shirt, showing support for the absent Colombian after reports his parents were kidnapped back home. Manager Jurgen Klopp handed Jota the shirt to display at Anfield after he turned in the rebound from Nunez’s initial shot.
Nunez then doubled Liverpool’s lead with a bullet near-post finish following good work down the left from Dominik Szoboszlai. The Reds continued to dominate, with Nunez and Jota both going close to adding a third before the interval.
The Reds picked up where they left off early in the second period when Salah capitalised on an error from Forest keeper Matt Turner to side foot home his eighth league goal of the season. The comfortable victory lifts Liverpool to within three points of EPL leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
Forest rarely threatened the Liverpool goal, hitting the woodwork late on through Anthony Elanga’s volley. Taiwo Awoniyi returned from injury and featured for 21 minutes but ultimately it was a straightforward three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have now won seven of their opening 10 league matches.
