BEVERLY HILL, March 20, (THEWILL) – United States’ President Joe Biden stumbled upon a staircase thrice while he was boarding his Air Force One plane on Friday.
The incident happened as Biden headed to meet Asian-American community leaders following the death of six women in a major shooting at a parlour this week.
The US President can be seen in a video of the incident holding on the side railings of the staircase and heading up to board the plane when he fell once, and then again two times.
After the third fall, Biden got up, paused momentarily and put himself together before making the rest of the way up the jet stairs.
The US President later gave a customary salute from the top of the staircase as he entered the plane.
There were many reactions with some saying the president is frail.
Joe Biden, 78, is the oldest president in the history of the United States.
But in a statement, Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre told White House pool reporters Biden was “100 per cent” fine.
“It was very windy. I almost fell coming up the steps myself. He is doing 100 per cent”, she said.
“I know folks have seen that President Biden slipped on his way up the stairs to AF1, but I’m happy to report that he is just fine and did not even require any attention from the medical team who travels with him. Nothing more than a misstep on the stairs”, said White House Communications Director, Kate Bedingfield.
Notably, concerns have been raised regarding Biden’s health. He had last year suffered a hairline fracture in his right foot while playing with his dog
During the capaign to the 2020 Presidential election, he was mocked by President J. Trump’s campaign managers over his fitness and Trump even coined the term “sleepy Joe”.
Again, the incident comes a day after Biden had a bitter stand-off with Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
Putin had pulled out of an envoy to the US after Biden called him a killer in an interview earlier this week.
But the Russian leader, who mocked Biden by saying it takes a killer to identify another killer, wished his American counterpart good health.
