It’s Now Thursday For Disrupted Man U Vs Liverpool Match

BEVERLY HILLS, May 06, (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, the English Premier League rescheduled the pending fixture between EPL’s second-placed side Manchester United Anfield club Liverpool, that had to be postponed due to pitch invasion by anti-Glazer protesting fans of the host club at the Old Trafford grounds of Manchester.

The match has been rearranged for Thursday, May 13, which should bring the two teams back into the Theatre of Dreams to slug it out for a favourable result.

On Sunday, protesters against the continued stay of the Glazers as club owners, broke into Old Trafford to continue to register their displeasure about that state of affairs, in the long-running fallout to United’s participation in the formation of the European Super League.

The pitch invasion followed from a protest outside the Lowry Hotel, where United’s players traditionally spend the night before any home match in preparation for games at Old Trafford. The protesters blocked off both front and rear entrances at the hotel, initially causing a delay of kickoff.

As reported by THEWILL, when it was impossible to keep to the scheduling of the fixture as the kick-off of 4:30PM local time was practically unfeasible, the Premier League announced that the game would be postponed.

The scheduling implies that the visit of Leicester City, which had already been rearranged due to the involvement of Kelechi Iheanacho’s side in the Emirates FA Cup final, has been put back 24 hours to Tuesday 11 May. It squeezes the United squad into an uncomfortably packed schedule.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges will return from a UEFA Europa League trip against Roma on Thursday to take a deep breath before diving into a Sunday game away at Villa Park against Aston Villa, take on the Foxes at home, on Tuesday, the 11th as mentioned earlier, all before that rescheduled Liverpool tie on Thursday, April 13.

Fortunately, their Europa first leg 6-2 semi-final victory will make it less of a tricky schedule than it could have been.

Both protests, in the stadium and in front of the Lowry Hotel, were organised in response to the European Super League. Unfortunately, the police reported that two of their officers were injured in the process.
