October 26, (THEWILL) – Inter cruised to a 4-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen, to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages and simultaneously eliminated Barcelona.
The Nerazzurri knew they would advance even if Barcelona lost later that day at home to Bayern Munich, but Simone Inzaghi’s team dispelled any uncertainty with a polished performance.
Inter missed a few first-half chances before they settled down to a more fluid display and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, gave them the lead. Dzeko made sure that Plzen and Barcelona were effectively out, advancing to the next stage by halftime.
Romelu Lukaku, produced a late goal on his comeback from injury, after a brilliant Dzeko finish just after the hour mark, capped an impressive all-round performance and helped Inter advance easily.
The next match for Inter is at home in the Serie A on Saturday, against Sampdoria. On the same day, Plzen plays Ziln away in the Czech Liga.
