September 10, (THEWILL) – Marcelo Brozovic’s last-gasp strike saved Inter Milan’s blushes as they overcame Romelu Lukaku’s absence to secure a 1-0 victory against Torino in Milan.
In the 89th minute, the Croatian caught Nicolo Barella’s lob into the box and guided the ball just beyond Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, setting off raucous celebrations.
Inter, who lost to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League midweek without the injured Lukaku, produced a lacklustre performance throughout and lacked a cutting edge in attack.
Ivan Juric will be left to reflect on what could have been had his squad been more adventurous, while Simone Inzaghi will celebrate this slim victory with all the joy it merited.
On September 13, Inter will return to European football when they travel to Viktoria Plzen before returning immediately to Europe. At the weekend, Torino will return to Serie A action as they host Sassuolo at home.
