March 16, (THEWILL)- England captain Harry Kane sparked injury fears after being substituted during Bayern Munich’s 5-2 win over Darmstadt, on Saturday. The 30-year-old striker twisted his ankle in the netting while scoring his record-breaking 29th Bundesliga goal of an incredible debut season for Bayern.
The former Tottenham talisman had to be replaced in the 82nd minute, raising concerns over his availability for England’s upcoming international friendlies. Gareth Southgate’s side faces Brazil on March 23, before taking on Belgium just four days later as preparations ramp up for Euro 2024.
Speaking after the match, Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel admitted the club was awaiting news on the severity of Kane’s ankle issue. “He twisted his ankle in the goal netting. He’s been applying ice to it since”, Tuchel told the club’s website. “We don’t have any news yet. We’ll have to wait and see and hope that it’s nothing major.”
Despite the injury scare, Kane was in positive spirits after breaking the record for most Bundesliga goals in a debut campaign. “Proud to break a Bundesliga record but more importantly another good win”, the England captain posted on X (formerly Twitter).
England fans will be hoping for good news on Kane’s fitness ahead of two crucial warm-up matches against Brazil and Belgium. His goalscoring could prove vital as the Three Lions target glory at next year’s European Championships in Germany.
