Imo Residents Lament Hot Weather, Poor Power Supply

February 21, (THEWILL) – Residents of Imo State have lamented over what they described as “unusual weather”, which has forced them to adopt measures to cope with the condition.

They complained about the excessively hot weather being experienced in the state, with most of them saying they are unable to sleep at night, especially with the epileptic power supply in the state.

A student of the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education (AIFUE), Owerri, Miriam Okorochukwu, said the new weather is making life unbearable for her.

“At night, we hardly sleep well. I have resorted to wearing sunshade glasses to protect myself from the scorching sunlight experienced in the afternoon. The weather is too hot for my liking,” she said.

Another resident of the state, Chukwuma Eronini, a commercial bus driver, said the sweltering heat experience over the past three weeks has compelled him to wear light clothes just to cope with the situation.

“I also find myself taking a lot of water, about eight sachets a day, because of the sweltering heat in the afternoon,” Eronini added.

Similarly, a Teacher at the Federal Girls’ College, Owerri, Lilian Ihedioha, said it is easier for her to deal with cold than heat, adding that when there is harmattan, one wears heavy clothes for protection.

Meanwhile, Dr. Johnson Ibe, an Owerri-based Medical Practitioner, has advised the general public to always drink water, urging them not to wait until they are dehydrated before taking water.
