September 30, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe, declaring that he is healthy, sound and ready to resume work.
The President made the declaration on Tuesday evening shortly after arriving at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, from Paris, France, where he spent the latter part of his working vacation.
Tinubu was received at the airport by top government officials, political leaders and other dignitaries, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
Speaking with journalists after his arrival, the President dismissed concerns about his health, saying his physical return to the country had put to rest rumours about his condition.
“I’m ready to kick, ready to work, there is nothing wrong. Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the fact remains I’m here, healthy and sound and ready to go.”
The President also said he enjoyed his time away from Nigeria when asked how the working vacation went.
“I enjoyed myself,” he said.
Tinubu’s declaration came amid public and political discussions over his extended absence from the country, with some opposition figures questioning the length of his stay abroad and his decision not to personally attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Presidency had maintained that the President remained engaged with affairs of state while abroad and continued to direct the administration.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led the Nigerian delegation to the UN General Assembly, where he represented Tinubu at several high-level engagements.

Although described by the Presidency as a working vacation, Tinubu’s stay in Europe included a number of official and investment-related engagements.
The President began the trip in London before travelling to Paris, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron and French businessman, Vincent Bolloré.
His administration also linked the European engagements to investment discussions and efforts to attract capital into major projects in Nigeria.
Among the projects associated with the President’s engagements was the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun State, for which the Federal Government and DP World had advanced discussions.
Tinubu’s return also comes at a time when his administration is expected to intensify activities on the domestic front as the country approaches its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Abbas: Rest Should Bring More Action
Speaking on the President’s return, Abbas said Tinubu’s period of rest should translate into renewed energy and greater action in the administration.
“It is incredibly nice to have him after one month away, and we believe that the days he has spent resting will translate into more action this time around.
“We believe that he will come with renewed vigour, a renewed hope, to continue serving the good people of Nigeria,” the Speaker said.
Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for the Independence Anniversary celebrations on October 1, with official engagements scheduled in the state before his return to Abuja.
His return marks the end of his extended European stay and the resumption of his direct physical presence in the country as the administration moves into the final quarter of the year.
