April 28, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State is in disarray following the sudden resignation of its most popular members and former governor of the State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, last week.
As of the time of filing this report, over one thousand stalwarts of the party, both at the local government and state levels, had already exited while others are said to have tendered their resignation letters to the leadership of the party.
Meanwhile, Ihedioha is yet to make a pronouncement on the next line of action even though the 2027 Imo gubernatorial exercise is gathering momentum.
Also, reactions and speculations have continued to trail the development in the party, now being headed by Mr. Chidi Dike from Okigwe LGA as its Acting Chairman.
Recall that the internal crisis started brewing during the 2023 general election between the National Secretary of the Party, Chief Samuel Anyanwu and Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha over who is in charge of the party.
In his reaction, the newly-appointed Acting Chairman of the PDP in Imo State, Mr. Chidi Dike, described Ihedioha’s exit as never a failure for the Imo PDP.
Dike explained that the party would now heave a sigh of relief over the departure of those he regarded as “enemies within”.
“As they are leaving our party, more prominent leaders across the state are making progress to rejoin the PDP,” Dike said.
