October 07, (THEWILL) – Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho were the goalscorers as Leicester City maintained their position at the top of the Championship with a 2-0 victory over Stoke City at the King Power Stadium.

Iheanacho netted his third goal in as many matches to give Leicester the lead midway through the first half. The Foxes had dominated possession but struggled to break down a stubborn Stoke defence until Iheanacho finished off a neat move involving Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Ricardo Pereira.

Leicester continued to control proceedings after the interval and went close to doubling their advantage when Yunus Akgun forced an excellent save from Stoke goalkeeper, Mark Travers. The hosts finally made sure of the three points with 11 minutes remaining as substitute Vardy was on hand to convert Wilfred Ndidi’s cross just minutes after coming off the bench.

The win sees Leicester open up a 10-point gap over third-place Preston as they made it three consecutive home league victories without conceding for the first time since April 2017. Stoke battled hard despite missing nine players through injury but rarely threatened aside from Nathan Lowe heading over when well placed.

Leicester Manager, Enzo Maresca, made six changes from the midweek win over Preston but his side eventually proved too strong for the struggling Potters.
