April 19, (THEWILL) – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn all police officers attached to former Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello.
THEWILL earlier reported that the Federal Government has placed Bello on watchlist following a request from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The former governor, who is facing a 19-count charge of alleged money laundering to the tune of N80.2bn, has evaded arrest.
The anti-graft agency, on Thursday, declared Yahaya Bello wanted.
The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) had also placed the former governor on its watchlist following a request from the EFCC.
However, in a police wireless message sighted by THEWILL, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Egbetokun, has ordered the withdrawal of policemen attached to the fleeing former governor.
The document with reference number: CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/34 read in part: “IG has ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to His Excellency and former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
