May 29, (THEWILL) – On Sunday, Barcelona fans and club management at the Spotify Camp Nou, bid farewell to the Camp Nou legendary legacy on Sunday night, marking the end of an era after 66 years since its inauguration in 1957.
The highly anticipated game against Mallorca served as the final event before the iconic stadium undergoes a transformation, making way for a new and revamped venue scheduled to open its doors in late 2024. In a touching tribute, two football greats, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, took their final bows on this memorable night.
Over 88,000 passionate fans filled the stadium, not only to witness this historic moment but also to relive the nostalgia of the past. Reverberating through the crowd was the recitation of the Josep Maria de Sagarra poem, which had echoed in the stadium on its inaugural night back in 1957. Adding to the sentiment, representatives from various club departments carried six colossal shirts onto the pitch, symbolising the six decades of the stadium’s cherished history.
The evening continued with a breathtaking display of tradition as local dance groups performed the traditional sardana dance, accompanied by the iconic Barca anthem played by the Cobla Principal de Terrassa. To make the atmosphere even more immersive, the fans themselves provided powerful vocals within the stadium, creating an unforgettable experience.
