I Will Tackle Insecurity Ruthlessly If I Become President – Atiku

May 17, (THEWILL) – Former vice president of Nigeria and the foremost presidential aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has identified insecurity as evil that has eaten deep into the fabrics of the country and vowed to nip it from the bud, if voted as president in 2023.

Atiku, who made the vow while consulting with the national delegates at the PDP Secretariat, Atan Ofot, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, gave priority to tackling insecurity among the five cardinal points of his perceived administration which includes: reuniting Nigeria, economy transformation, education and restructuring of the country.

“I will deal ruthlessly with the issue of insecurity, I will return law and order, by putting more policeman on the streets and equipping them. Ask them, when I was the Vice President of this country, I equipped the Nigeria police and increased their numbers.

“I had earlier listed five fundamental issues I want to tackle during my declearation: to reunite our country again, because the APC has divided us and brought a lot of disunity. I will give everyone a sense of belonging, you will not be discriminated because you belong to the North or South, Christian or Muslim, absolutely none.

“APC is Evil. In any case, Akwa Ibom has never voted for APC. God forbid that you vote for APC. I am going to tackle the economy, create more jobs and empower the private sector. the private sector is the engine room of the economy. I will also improve the education sector.

“I am going to restructure this country. I will devolve more power and resources to the State and Local Governments, I want to see a very slim Federal Government. I will sit with the leaders of National and State Assembly, to agree on modalities of restructuring, to devolve more powers and resources to the state and Local Government.” Atiku rolled out.

He, however, acknowledged the fact that the incumbent Governor of the state, Mr Udom Emmanuel, was also in the race and should ordinarily be voted for by Akwa Ibom people, but appealed to delegates to look in his direction, should there be descents.

“Ordinarily you should vote for your Governor because he is your son. But if for any other reason, you cannot vote for your Governor due to your right to disagree, I am here. Even in the family, you have the descents and in democracy, the right to disagree, is a fundamental right.

“I am here because the founders of PDP in Akwa Ibom State have been my brothers, friends and contemporaries till date”, Atiku appealed.

Responding, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Mr Aniekan Akpan, reechoed Atiku’s position that APC-led government has spelt evil to Nigeria, saying that PDP has the duty to unite as a party to rescue Nigeria.

“The major focus of the party is to unite, take over and build Nigeria. We will unite to kick APC out of Nigeria. we will unite as a party”, he maintained.
