October 26 (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, Mrs Abosede Aloba, the mother of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, informed a coroner’s court that her relationship with the deceased was strained for a significant period.
Abosede explained that the discord stemmed from Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, taking him away and advising against contact.
However, she shared with Coroner Magistrate, Adedayo Shotobi, that their relationship improved starting in 2019. Mrs Aloba testified as part of a coroner’s inquest into her son’s death which began on October 13, taking place at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.
Abosede revealed that she and Joseph visited the home of singer, Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, to inquire about the ongoing conflict with Mohbad.
“I asked Mohbad to call Pasuma to report Naira Marley because of the consistent beating, and Pasuma said he would intervene.
“Mohbad kept on cautioning me not to talk.
“I only got to know about the injury four days after, and the only person he had issues with is Naira Marley.
“The only complaint from the wife about him was infidelity,” she said.
Also testifying, Mr Sultan Ayobami, Mohbad’s disc jockey, stated that he had been acquainted with the late singer since 2018 and officially began collaborating with him in 2022. Ayobami disclosed that Mohbad had been subjected to bullying on two separate occasions.
He testified that the initial incident occurred in June at a club on Lagos Island, and the second incident transpired at Elegushi, Lagos Island, during a film shoot, “when Sam Larry drove in with his boys and started to beat Mohbad before he was rescued by Zlatan who took him to his car”. He noted that the incident was reported to the police.
Ayobami mentioned that Mohbad’s brother, Aduragbemi Aloba, was present when Larry threatened Mohbad’s life. He also shared that Mohbad sustained injuries in a confrontation with Marley, and a nurse was called to treat him.
“When I got back from the chemist where I went to get drugs, I met Mobhad on the floor lifeless, and we rushed him to a hospital where he was confirmed dead,” he said.
In an earlier testimony, Mohbad’s father, Joseph, informed the coroner’s court that the deceased had been residing with Marley since December 2019. Joseph shared that he and his son lived together for 18 years.
He mentioned that he wasn’t aware of the exact house where his late son lived with Marley.
Joseph testified that his son left home when he reached the age of consent, supporting Marley while pursuing his own music career.
He saw his son three days before his death and only witnessed the deceased’s casket through a photograph.
The deceased reassured him about handling the dispute with Marley.
Joseph stated that the deceased’s property was with his mother-in-law, and Mohbad often informed him about possessions held by his wife and her family.
He claimed that Mohbad’s wife occasionally added sleeping pills to his food and she had been unfaithful to the deceased.
