I Ran My Record Label Without Collecting Money From Signed Artistes – Davido

October 16, (THEWILL) – Afrobeats singer, songwriter and record producer, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he never collected a dime from any of his signed artists.

Following his exit from HKN music, he founded his record label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), in 2016, he signed the likes of Mayorkun, Idowest, Yonda, Ayanfe, Perruzi, amongst others.

Davido stated in a recent interview that in the first four years of launching his music record label, he managed his artists without taking any money from them.

Davido said he initially operated his label like a family and invested in artists’ welfare. He said he wanted to help them grow and achieve their dreams, and he was happy to see them succeed.

“My label was really more like a family to me. I was young. I was just happy putting my boy on to me, that is what it was really all about for me,” he said.

“I ran a label for four years, and I did not take one dime from my artiste and I was paying for videos, I was paying for accommodation, I was paying for welfare and just because I was just happy seeing that my success could rub up on this person, that was money for me.

“But obviously, Afrobeats got to a point now where it is global where now I have to explain to the artist these days, this is music business. To make money, you have to spend money.”
