SAN FRANCISCO, October 06, (THEWILL) – The trial of embattled Nigerian internet celebrity, Hushpuppi, real name Ramon Abass, slated to begin this month has been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The postponement was ordered by trial Judge Otis Wright, a district judge in Los Angeles, California. Proceedings will now begin on May 4, 2021 with the alleged cyber criminal remaining in government’s custody following his unsuccessful plea for bail.
Hushpuppi is being charged on four counts of money laundering and cybercrime. He risks at least 20 years in a federal prison if convicted.
The UAE police authorities nabbed him in June this year with 11 associates after he was alleged to have perpetrated crimes including hacking, impersonation, scamming, bank fraud, and identity theft.
