June 22, (THEWILL) – Polish tennis player, Hubert Hurkacz, upset second-seeded German, Alexander Zverev, in straight sets at the Halle grass-court tournament on Saturday. The semi-final match concluded with a score of 7-6 (7/2) 6-4, lasting one hour and 33 minutes.
Seeded fifth and the 2022 Halle champion, Hurkacz dominated the match with his powerful serve. The 27-year-old fired 17 aces, including 13 in the first set alone, and successfully saved all four break points he faced. This victory marks Hurkacz’s first win over 27-year-old Zverev in their four encounters, following their most recent match at the United Cup final in Sydney earlier this year.
The Polish player will now face world number one Jannik Sinner in the final. Sinner booked his spot after defeating China’s Zhang Zhizhen 6-4 7-6 in the other semi-final match. Hurkacz, who won a clay title in Estoril in April, will be competing for his second title of the 2024 season and his ninth ATP Tour title overall.
