BEVERLY HILLS, January 27, (THEWILL) – Benue Governor Samuel Ortom Monday told journalists in capital city, Makurdi that some herdsmen shot at him while he was in his farm located along Makurdi – Naka road in city.

“I went to my farm last week and the herdsmen who were coming back to Benue state in their numbers shot at me but were repelled by officers attached to the state’s security outfit, Operation Whirl Stroke, ” Ortom stated, reiterating his call for the arrest of the leaders of Miyetti Allah, the association of herdsmen.

Ortom expressed concerns that herdsmen are allowed to carry sophisticated arms while farmers are arrested for holding machetes in the farm.

THEWILL can report that herdsmen have unleashed a barrage of violence on landowners and farmers especially in the middle belt and the south as they seek grass and vegetation for their cows.

“Anti- open grazing prohibition law is still in force and anyone who wants to do business of animal husbandry must embrace ranching,” Ortom warned.
