BEVERLY HILLS, February 03, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ winger Henry Onyekuru is enjoying life in his third return to the Turkish Super Lig with his loan spell from the Ligue 1 side Monaco. For the second consecutive match after his January transfer window move to Turkey, the player was on target in Galatasaray’s 3-0 win against city rivals Istanbul Basaksehir.
As reported by THEWILL, the 23-year-old professional, whose decision to return on loan to a club where he has seen a tendency to excel is hinged on his keen motivation to get his career back on track, both at the national and international level, something he was yet to achieve while at Monaco given the lack of active minutes he was getting in the squad.
Onyekuru’s determination to repay the confidence the Istanbul club, Galatasaray, reposed in him by allowing him rejoin them for his third stint at their Turk Telekom Stadium, is proving to be the fuel his game needed.
On Tuesday, the rejuvenated winger, playing with renewed flair and admirable creativity, broke the deadlock when he netted at the verge of half-time, in the 45th minute.
Although he was substituted in the second half, his contribution was immense. With his goal opening the scoring, teammates Ryan Donk and Mustafa Muhammed complete the rout in the Tuesday night victory to secure the points in Galatasaray’s favour for their fourth consecutive win on the bounce.
The Nigerian is in a fine vein of form for Galatasaray as he has now scored three goals in two appearances. On Friday, he found the back of the net twice in their 2-1 away victory against Gaziantep in his first game back at Galatasaray.
With Onyekuru’s match performances so far fulfilling their rationale for bringing the Nigerian back into their fold, which is to keep the pressure on the League leaders Fernabache, Galatasaray now have 45 points from 22 matches, keeping them three points behind the leaders.
