SAN FRANCISCO, April 13, (THEWILL) – Ondo State deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, Monday , raised the alarm over his safety, accusing the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, of chasing him about with political thugs, alleging that the governor deployed the thugs to harass him on his way to his official residence.
“It is very surprising and rude shock that a sitting governor after conducting election is still going around with thugs to attack me in the State House.
” You can see things yourself at the roundabout, if I had not come with my convoy, they would have attacked me.
“I will call on the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of this zone, and the Inspector General of Police to protect me more for God’s sake.
“They should provide me with more mobile policemen to guard me. I am ready to resume duty as elected Deputy Governor of Ondo State.
“Nobody has told me to resign. If they are talking about impeachment they should go about it in a lawful way, not that they should use thugs to attack an elected deputy governor.
“They should realise that as Mimiko was elected as governor, I Ali Olanusi was equally elected. He cannot be chasing me with thugs,” the deputy governor stated as he made his way back to the Government House in Akure three weeks after his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, Mimiko, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Eni Akinsola, has denied the allegation.
Trouble started in the Alagbaka area of Akure, where the Ondo State Government House is located, Monday, as the convoy of the deputy governor was pelted with sachet water, stones and other dangerous objects by an angry mob protesting his return to the Government House following his defection to APC.
Olanusi, who was coming from Supare Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local /Government Area, was confronted by the protesters who had formed a barricade around the Mobil Fiwasaye Junction to prevent him from entering the Government House.
The protesters, carrying placards with inscriptions such as: ‘Ali Must go’, ‘No way for Olanusi in Government House’ ‘Olanusi is a traitor’ and ‘Jasper Ali Must resign,’ had to be dispersed by the security details attached to the deputy governor, who shot sporadically into the air to make way for the convoy.
The gunshots however sent shock waves around the Alagbaka area where many banks are located as many residents scampered for safety thinking that rampaging armed robbers had struck at the area again. Amid the confusion, armed military men were quickly deployed to the area to secure the banks.
