November 20, (THEWILL) – Mercedes’ 2022 season will serve as a “team-building exercise” according to Lewis Hamilton, who failed to finish the season’s final race on Abu Dhabi.

The seven-time world champion had a challenging season this year because Mercedes struggled to keep up with teams like Red Bull, which easily won both team and driver championships.

In Abu Dhabi, Hamilton’s initially excellent start allowed him to pass Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and move up to fourth, but he soon ran into problems after rebounding over an off-track curb.

Hamilton eventually had to retire due to a power outage, which summed up the challenges he faced all year. He still has hope that the team will learn from its mistakes going into 2023.

Talking about the car challenges Mercedes contended with, he said: “We were stuck with it, we kept working away to improve it but the fundamental issues have been there all the way to the end, as you saw this weekend. It’s been more of a team-building exercise this year and I’m very proud of the team. I’m very grateful for everybody who has continued to push.”
