September 16, (THEWILL) – Erling Haaland has been awarded the August Premier League Player of the Month honour, thanks to an incredible first month at Manchester City.
Following his summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund, the Norwegian attacker has already set a marker in England. On the first weekend of the season, he scored an outstanding brace on the road against West Ham United to start his Man City career. The 22-year-old won a penalty kick and converted it before capping a successful second-half performance to give City a 2-0 win.
Before scoring Man City’s second goal in a 3-3 tie at Newcastle United, Haaland provided an assist in a quieter performance against Bournemouth, in his second appearance. He left his most impressive games to the last two games of the month. At home against Crystal Palace, Man City was behind 2-0 when Haaland scored three of their four goals in a comeback victory of 4-2—his first hat-trick in English football.
Days later, he scored half of Man City’s goals in their 6-0 thrashing of Nottingham Forest on the last day of August, giving him his second hat-trick for the season. Haaland’s scorching form has continued into September with goals against Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, and Sevilla. He has now scored 10 goals in the Premier League and has a four-goal advantage over Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is in second position.
