October 08, (THEWILL) – A convincing 4-0 victory over Southampton helped Manchester City leapfrog Arsenal at the top of the English Premier League as Erling Haaland continued his remarkable scoring streak.
At the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, City quickly took control with goals from Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden — who fired in a remarkable hattrick in the Manchester derby last weekend — in a lacklustre first half from Southampton.
After the break, Riyad Mahrez increased the lead before Haaland scored his 15th league goal, matching the total Kevin De Bruyne scored when he finished as City’s leading scorer in the competition the previous season in only the 10th game of the season.
