March 20, (THEWILL)- Manchester City’s title hopes were seemingly dealt a potential blow on Tuesday, as star striker Erling Haaland limped out of Norway’s training session.
The prolific goalscorer, who has netted 18 English Premier League goals this season, slumped to the ground clutching his leg, raising concerns about his availability for City’s crunch match against Arsenal on March 31.
Haaland’s fitness has been a persistent issue for the reigning champions, with the 22-year-old missing 10 games earlier in the campaign due to injury. His presence in the starting XI is crucial for Pep Guardiola’s side as they aim to overhaul Arsenal’s lead at the summit of the EPL table.
Despite the worrying scenes from Norway’s training camp, team doctor Ola Sand moved to allay fears regarding the severity of Haaland’s latest setback. “No problem,” Sand told TV2, suggesting the striker’s issue may be minor. Nonetheless, City fans will be sweating over the fitness of their talisman ahead of the pivotal clash at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola had urged his international players to take care during the break, stressing the importance of the Arsenal fixture. “They know they are friendly games and they have to handle it wisely. Hopefully, they can do it,” the Spaniard said after City’s FA Cup victory over Newcastle United.
With the EPL title race finely poised, Haaland’s availability could prove decisive in Manchester City’s quest to retain their crown.
